Who We Are
Shuswap Homeschool COOP (SHC) is a COOP collective organized and led by volunteer
homeschooling families in the Shuswap and surrounding areas. We do life together, teaching and learning alongside our children.
SHC meets bi-weekly for Art, P.E. and Science activities. SHC also plans and organizes community events,
field trips and places to meet up and connect throughout the year for homeschool families.
SHC began in 2023, by a homeschool mom seeking to facilitate community and shared learning times for local homeschool families.
SHC consists of home-learning families from all backgrounds. Registered, IDL, DL or unschooling
all are welcome to join us. SHC is not affiliated with one particular school or organization.
Our group is comprised of a variety of Christian denominations and expressions of worship.
Those who do not consider themselves to be Christians are welcome, with the understanding and acknowledgement that
this is a faith-based group. All participants are to agree to be mutually respectful of all its members as we home-school together.

Getting connected
Homeschooling can be a rewarding experience! With many methods and approaches, homeschooling has become an popular alternative to traditional schooling. SHC is here to help encourage and cheer you on in your journey of teaching and learning.
All of our COOP gatherings, field trips and times of social connection are parent planned and organized. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the activities, and to also to help brainstorm new events or activities (as time and interest allows) within the Shuswap region. We are always looking for help with our annual community events.
Please note: SHC is not a drop-off program. Parents attending with participating students are
required to remain at the program and help out where they can.
We understand that homeschooling means that children of all ages- including those who are not yet school aged- will be in attendance. Parents of young children are responsible for overseeing their children's activity and behaviour, and are encouraged to bring toys or activities from home for them to play with. Children who are not school aged, may participate in COOP activities as age and ability allows.

What A Typical COOP Looks LIke
We meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays from 1-3 P.M. in a local gym. During that time students can participate in the following
•GROUP GAME TIME: a time to learn new skills, how to engage in games with others, and a great opportunity to get the wiggles out!
•SCIENCE: a lesson and activity is taught to the entire group in such a way that children of all ages can learn. Due to the large range of grade levels we have groups split from Preschool-Grade 3 and Grade 4+ . These lessons help cover specific science outcomes as listed by the BC outcome requirements.
•SNACK TIME: because busy bodies need snacks! ( Parents are required to pack their own snacks for their children. Please assist in cleaning up after your children, should crumbs or spills happen. If your child has food related allergies, please let this be known so that others can be aware and considerate of this)
•ART: Art time varies between learning about art techniques, artists, etc. to trying various art mediums. COOP membership fees assist in covering the expenses of art supplies, but there may be times when parents need to bring special items for particular art projects.
Why membership?
As home educators we love our kids, and have chosen to homeschool them for a variety of reasons. If we are honest though, homeschooling can sometimes feel isolating or lonely. Community is vital to having a healthy homeschool journey for both parents and students!
Our COOP community encourages and values respecting each other, and encouraging each other in the highs and lows of teaching and parenting. We also value the education and socialization of children amongst their families and in their community.
Privacy is very important to our COOP members and their families,
so our Facebook page and Events page on our website is for members only.
For $25 a month your membership fee covers the cost of our facility rental we use for meeting , supplies for classes and allows you access to:o
